How To Develop Meaningful Company "Mission, Vision, and Values"
Webinar replay, slides, and more included. This is a "must-read/watch/listen" for anyone running an end-of-year annual planning cycle at your company.
Jared here, Founder/CEO of Offsite, your friendly neighborhood offsite planning company 🤓.
Recently, I hosted a webinar featuring Linny Kresch Jones and Harte Logan, co-founders of Tandemly (two of the curated speakers/facilitators available for hire through Offsite’s curated marketplace).
Founders, Chiefs of Staff, and other People Leaders from Seed and Series A-D startups joined us live for this webinar on How To Develop Meaningful Company "Mission, Vision, and Values" and, for those who couldn't join us live, we wanted to share the slides and webinar replay below.

Some of the key takeaways from the webinar included:
Aligning Mission, Vision, and Values for Impactful Decision-Making:
The magic happens when your Mission (why you exist), your Vision (where you're going), and your Values (who you are and how you act) form a trinity of alignment.
This alignment isn't just about having a cohesive statement; it's about creating a unified direction that permeates through your strategic planning, your branding, and your everyday operations.
It's about ensuring that every team member, from the executive suite to the front lines, understands and can articulate not just what you do, but why it matters.
Creating A “North Star” Through Your Vision Statement:
A Vision Statement is not just an aspirational phrase; it's your company's North Star. It guides your strategic decisions and inspires your team to reach further.
Crafting this statement requires a deep understanding of what your company aspires to achieve and the ability to distill that into a compelling and motivational narrative that resonates not just with your employees, but with customers, investors, and the wider community.
Linny and Harte shared examples with us from Zappos, Nordstrom, McDonald’s, and many other notable companies.
Providing Clarity and Focus With Your Mission Statement:
Your Mission Statement is the heartbeat of your organization, succinctly defining its purpose.
It should clearly communicate the unique value your company brings to the market and its customers.
A well-crafted mission statement is memorable, serving as a rallying cry that energizes your team and provides a clear focus for all company activities.
Values Become Your Behavioral Cornerstones:
Values are the cornerstone of company culture, but they cannot be vague or aspirational ideals.
They must be actionable and observable behaviors that are exemplified in the daily actions of every team member.
In the webinar, we explored how to define these behaviors and integrate them into performance evaluations, reward systems, and recruitment processes to ensure they are lived out consistently.
Conflict Resolution (And How A Lack Of Shared Mission, Vision, and Values Can Negatively Impact Teams)
During the webinar, we tackled the tough topic of conflict within organizations. Conflicts often arise not from personal differences, but from misalignment on fundamental objectives and roles.
By establishing a clear Mission, Vision, and Values, everyone has a common language and framework to resolve these disputes.
It provides a reference point to return to when there's disagreement, ensuring that every resolution is in service of the company's core objectives.
Active Listening To Understand Someone Else’s Values
Listening is a superpower in the world of Mission, Vision, and Values.
It's not just about hearing words; it's about understanding the underlying messages, emotions, and values they convey.
Active listening helps us to truly grasp the importance of each value and how it applies to our work and interactions with others.
In the webinar, we dove into strategies for enhancing listening skills across the organization to ensure that values are not just heard, but fully understood and embraced.
